COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 14, 2005) — The Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble
is the first such student group in history to be included on the prestigious
Grammy Entry List.
Its latest recording, Carnegie VI, was submitted and accepted
by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to be included
on the organization’s Grammy Entry List.
“Although the recording didn’t make it to the second phase,
which is an actual Grammy nomination, it’s still a very big accomplishment
for a student ensemble recording on a small record label to make it to
even the initial phase of the Grammy selection process,” said TTTE
Director R. Winston Morris.
“That still means the quality of this CD recording has been recognized
and accepted by the committee responsible for Grammy nomination eligibility
— and that’s an honor never heretofore bestowed upon any student
tuba group,” he continued.
The TTTE is the most recorded tuba ensemble in history and the only such
group to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall. It’s latest
recording, released on the Mark Records label, documents its unprecedented
sixth performance at the famous venue.
Among the works included on the CD are Handel’s “Arrival
of the Queen of Sheeba,” Vivaldi’s “Winter,” and
Thelonius Monk’s “’Round Midnight.”
The recording was included on this year’s Grammy Entry List in
two categories — Best Small Ensemble Performance and Best Engineered
Album, Classical.
In addition, the CD’s producer, Mark J. Morette, made the list
under the Producer of the Year category.
