COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 29, 2005) Recent Tennessee Tech University
graduates left college feeling better about their academic and social
experience than many other graduates of universities in the state, according
to a recent alumni survey.
Those alumni also ranked their abilities to lead, define problems, learn
on their own, and write and speak effectively higher on average than other
survey respondents across the state and nation. TTU alumni also ranked
their ability to understand scientific principles and work in a group
above the national average.
About 200 respondents participated in the mail survey sent to recent
graduates. The results tabulated 37 responses about the educational and
social environment experienced at TTU. The questions allowed graduates
to rate their overall experiences as well as individual items, including
the quality of teaching, services and facilities.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission suggests that each Tennessee
college and university survey recent graduates every three years in order
to evaluate their experiences and see how well they say they were prepared
for employment. Item scores were reported as an institution's average
and compared to the institution's prior average, the state average, and
when available, the national norm.
TTU received the maximum amount of points awarded by THEC for scoring
an almost 92% success rate on the survey. Success is demonstrated by scoring
at or above the state or national norm and the institution's prior performance.
