COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2005) – The Brass Arts Quintet is scheduled for an Oct. 31 concert at Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium in which two new pieces are scheduled to premiere.

“This is a terrific program for those who like both jazz and classical works,” said Brass Quintet coordinator Charles Decker. “We are particularly proud to be giving the first performances of two new works for brass created just for our quintet.”

“A Child’s Garden of Jazz” by Henry Wolking is a new work of American brass. Wolking is a prominent trombonist and music professor at the University of Utah.

“Bounce” by Chris McCormick is the second new piece that will be premiered. McCormick is TTU’s director of jazz studies and has written a variety of works for jazz ensemble and brass quintet.

Other works that will be featured in the performance include music of the Renaissance transcribed by David Baldwin and “Bouncer” by Donald Grantham, an award-winning composer from the University of Texas who will be on campus for a two-day residency Nov. 2 and 3.

The jazzy tradition of New Orleans will also be displayed with the performance of “Basin Street Blues.” The program will conclude with Kai Winding’s version of “That Old Devil Moon,” featuring trombonist Joshua Hauser.
