COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 31, 2005) – Bachelor of fine arts thesis
exhibits by Breanna Kincaid, fibers, and Ross Ruppel, wood, will be on
display at the Appalachian Center for Craft’s Gallery One through
Saturday, Nov. 12.
A metals exhibit by BFA student Anna Quarles will also be on display
in the Center’s North Windows Gallery from Nov. 8 to 13.
An artists’ reception on Nov. 12 will honor all three exhibitors.
Kincaid’s work explores the process of making three-dimensional
felted neckpieces and hats. She overlaps layers of wool, wetting and rolling
the fibers to create a whimsical effect in the materials. Vibrant colors
are an important aspect of her work, and they are used to show the creativeness
and imagination of childhood.
“My art work is a vehicle to capture the youthful spirit and uninhibited
creativity of childhood,” explained Kincaid.
Ruppel creates a generational flare in his woodworking. His tables and
chairs use curves and lines to create an emotional response. The furniture
he creates serves as a metaphor of the association between certain pieces
and generations of families.
To get to the Craft Center, take Interstate 40 to Exit 273, turn south
toward Smithville on Highway 56 and turn left immediately after crossing
Hurricane Bridge.
