COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2005) – Tennessee Tech University art
professor Christine Koczwara gave her painting students an assignment
recently that’s turned into a powerful exhibition of images in the
lobby of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
Running through Nov. 8, the exhibit presents each student’s interpretation
of Hurricane Katrina, one of our nation’s biggest national disasters
ever.
The students’ work depicts portraits of victims, cityscapes of
the flooding and destruction, aerial views of the storm and interpretation
of the Doppler radar tracking the storm’s progress.
While some students focused on the grim sadness and darkness of the destruction
resulting from the disaster, others chose to use more intense color to
bring about a feeling of hope.
The exhibit’s uniting concept is that, just like the hurricane
itself, the work presents a powerful image.

department at 931/372-3161.
