COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct.19, 2005) – The Tech Players kick off their
51st season of theater at Tennessee Tech University on Homecoming week,
when their production of Nicky Silver’s Raised in Captivity
opens at the Backdoor Playhouse at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Raised in Captivity is a contemporary play that explores the
guilt and redemption in the lives of two estranged siblings when they
reunited at their mother’s funeral. It contains some adult language
and mature situations and may not be suitable for children.
“It’s not exactly a drama, but it’s not a comedy either.
To me, it portrays a life-like sense of irony through its funny scenes,
but it ultimately presents a very poignant message about some very adult
concerns — like death and grief and our sense of family —
that really touched my heart,” said Director Mark Creter.
Additional 8 p.m. show times are set for Nov. 4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12,
and the Nov. 8 presentation is TTU Employee Appreciation Night. The play
will also be presented at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Ticket prices are $8 for general admission, $6 for senior citizens and
non-TTU students and free for TTU students who present Eagle Card identification.
A Center Stage event, Raised in Captivity is produced in cooperation
with the TTU English and communications department and by arrangement
with Dramatist’s Play Service.
The Backdoor Playhouse is located at the rear of the university’s
Jere Whitson Buillding.
For ticket reservations, call the Backdoor Playhouse box office at 931/372-6595
