COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 12, 2005) – A faculty trombone recital
by Joshua Hauser is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, at Tennessee Tech
University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Paul Thurmond
will accompany him on piano.
The performance will be dedicated to some of the classic works in the
trombone repertoire. The well-known Concerto by Danish composer
Launy Grondahl and the Sulek Sonata will anchor the concert.
Hauser and Thurmond will also perform the Weber's Romanza Apassionata
and Camille Saint-Sean’s Cavatine.
“The grand finale of the performance will be Arthur Pryor’s
famous variation on The Blue Bells of Scotland, featuring a recent transcription
that I made of Prior’s original cadenza taken from a recording of
him as a soloist with the John Philip Sousa band,” said Hauser.
“This piece has been a test of skill for trombonists ever since
Pryor performed it, and I look forward to sharing my interpretation with
the audience,” he continued.
Wattenbarger Auditorium is located inside the Bryan Fine Arts Building
and the recital is free and open to the general public.
