COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2005) – The winds of music come sweeping across Tennessee Tech University in a special performance by New York-based Zephyros Winds at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

Bosnian-born pianist Pedja Muzijevic will accompany the woodwind quintet for the show.
Hailed as one of the nation’s leading chamber ensembles, Zephyros Winds takes its name from the Greek god of the west wind.

The group first gained distinction in 1995, only a year after its formation, when it won both the first and grand prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, making it the first wind quintet in the competition’s 22-year history to do so.

Reviewers from such media outlets as The Washington Post and Chicago Sun-Times have praised the group for its high-spirited, virtuoso performances with brilliantly varied range for wind instrumentation.

“This brilliant young ensemble could convince you that the sound of music in heaven is a delicately blended and balanced ensemble of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon,” said a review from The Washington Post.

Guest pianist Muzijevic is known for being a versatile artist, with an artistic curiosity that has propelled him to explore musical styles and period instruments from both the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as works by contemporary composers.

Zephyros Winds includes Jennifer Grim, flute; Marianne Gythfeldt, clarinet; Patrick Pridemore, horn; Douglas Quint, bassoon; and James Roe, oboe.

The concert is a Center Stage event that is free and open to the general public.
