COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 30, 2006) – Tennessee Tech University’s
Cumberland Quintet will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7,
at the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The quintet will perform select works including A Polka by Shostakovich,
The Quintet by Carl Nielsen and a transcription of Maurice Ravel’s
Mother Goose Suite. The suite was originally composed for piano, but Ravel’s
transcription creates a fairy tale-like exuberance.
Established in 1972, the Cumberland Quintet has toured throughout the
United States and Europe and has made numerous television and radio performances.
Albany Records will release the quintet’s latest CD, “Into
the Blue,” in April.
In addition to performing at such prestigious music conventions as the
College Music Society, Tennessee Music Educators Association, National
Flute Association and Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic,
members of the quintet also serve as faculty members for the Southeast
Chamber Music Institute, a week long workshop for high school students
held annually on the campus of TTU.
The show will be free and open to the public. For more information, call
TTU’s music and art department at 931/372-3161.
