| COOKEVILLE,
Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2006) — Tennessee Tech University alumnus and local
woodcarver John Teeple, right, presents President Bob Bell with an eagle
carved of golden maple wood taken from the yard of his mother Emogene. He
said he chose that type of wood in carving a representation of TTU’s
golden eagle mascot specifically because its color will intensify as it
ages. A resident of Crossville, Teeple recently carved a nativity scene
for the town’s courthouse square. Although he has been carving wood
for only a couple of months, he and his family have a long history of attending
TTU. Teeple is a 1981 agriculture graduate, while his wife, Ilene, is a
1982 nursing graduate who works in surgery at Crossville’s Cumberland
Medical Center. His mother earned her master’s in educational administration
from TTU. (Photo: TTU)
