COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 2, 2006) – Beginning March 16, Marie-Laurie Ilie presents her work, containing ancient symbols and archetypes, in fiber art in Gallery Two of the Appalachian Center for Craft from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and running through April 14.

Ilie will be on hand to deliver an artist lecture March 16, at 9:30 a.m., in Audio-Visual Room 1, located in the lower level of the building. Ilie contributes a historical and sociological perspective in her work, merging the link between the human body and fabric to reinterpret historical iconography.

“I strive to reach an art form that is both visually satisfying and conceptually enriching, one that explores the nature of visual reproduction, and that also questions the essence of cultural and personal memories and their transformation through time,” Ilie said.

She holds a master’s degree in English studies from the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Michigan. The recipient of the Fulbright Travel Grant, she has studied with many professional artists throughout France.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273. Go south on Highway 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge.
