COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 2, 2006) — Tennessee Tech University’s Cumberland Quintet will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

The concert will feature a wide variety of musical styles for the wind quintet.

Works to be performed include “The Italian Concerto” by J.S. Bach, a serenade for woodwind quintet entitled “Twigs,” by Carleton Macy, “First Time Again,” a new work by Ben Champion, and “Vaudeville,” in honor of Greg Danner, composer-in-residence at TTU and a member of the Cumberland Quintet.

Established in 1972, the Cumberland Quintet has built a reputation for unique programming and fine musicianship. The group has toured throughout the United States and in Europe, performing for a wide variety of audiences.

Commanding a large repertoire of music from all periods, they offer the standard woodwind classics as well as modern works and lighter popular music. This year marks the group’s 34th season.

Its members have performed as guest artists at music conventions for the College Music Society, the National Flute Association, Tennessee Music Educators Association, and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.

The group’s fourth CD, Into the Blue, was released this year by Albany Records.

The Cumberland Quintet consist of Roger Martin on flute, William Woodworth on the oboe, Anne Thurmond on the clarinet, James Lotz on the bassoon and Jennifer Kummer on the horn.
