COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2006) –- Tennessee Tech University music professor Frederick Kennedy will present a voice recital on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bryan Fine Arts Building. Admission is free, and the recital is open to the public.

Kennedy will be accompanied by guest pianist Henri Venanzi.

To acknowledge the birthday celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Kennedy will sing one of the famous composer’s noted concert arias, “Per pieta, non ricercate.”

Another highlight of the program will be the world premiere of composer Bruce Trinkley’s song cycle, “Seven Synge Songs.”

The settings were inspired by the brilliant production of the complete plays of Irish dramatist John Millington Synge, said Trinkley.

The cycle of songs, which is dedicated to Kennedy, alludes to Synge’s autobiographical poems that refer to his stay in Paris as an impoverished writer.

The program will also include songs by Johannes Brahms and Joaquin Turina, will continue with an aria by Gaetano Donizetti and will conclude with traditional Negro spirituals.
