COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2007)—Lorraine Glessner’s mixed
media exhibit will be shown Feb. 12-March 9 in Tennessee Tech University’s
Joan Derryberry Art Gallery, on the first floor of the Roaden University
Center. She will present a gallery talk on Feb. 13 at 3:30 p.m. with a
reception immediately following.
Glessner, a resident of Philadelphia, is a fiber artist whose media are
usually beeswax, encaustic and oil paint on silk.
Her work is concerned with raising questions in her viewers’ minds
concerning how all of creation—universe, earth, nature and humanity
— co-exist, connect and interweave utilizing processes such as burning,
rusting, decomposition, burying or weather exposure.
Through pattern and materials, questions are raised concerning want versus
need, natural versus man-made creation, the overabundance of choice in
a commercial society, excess, waste and its impact on the cyclic life.
Her patterns and textures are inspired by satellite photography.
