COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2007)—Alonso Sierralta’s mixed
media sculptures exhibit will be shown through Feb. 9 in Tennessee Tech
University’s Joan Derryberry Art Gallery, on the first floor of
the Roaden University Center.
He will present a gallery talk on Feb. 8 at 3:30 p.m. with a reception
immediately following.
Sierralta’s works reflect his experience as an immigrant from Chile,
not in a political way, but as a visual representation using organic forms
and natural motifs.
“The examination of ambiguous, yet familiar forms, such as seed-bearing
fruits and vegetables, pollen and root systems are used to create the
idea of dispersion and growth symbolizing relocation and prosperity in
another land,” said Sierralta.
Sierralta has a BFA from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln and an MFA
from the University of Nebraska/Omaha. He is currently on the faculty
at Concordia University in Minnesota, where he teaches art classes and
Spanish.
