Hal Ott, flutist, and TTU's own Paul Thurmond, piano, will be in concert March 23, 24  

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 14, 2007)—Hal Ott, flutist, and the university’s own Paul Thurmond, pianist, will present a concert entitled “Modern Music: Passionate and Poetic” on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium.

Ott and Thurmond will perform original music by Maria Newman, along with a variety of other pieces representing various nationalities and time periods.

A Center Stage event, the show is free and open to the public.

On March 24, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Ott will present Flute Day workshops and classes on flute performance and teaching. This will culminate with a 3:00 p.m. concert by Ott and Thurmond.

A member of the faculty at Central Washington University, Ott teaches flute and music history. He is also currently principal flute with the Yakima Symphony.

He has been a member of the Peoria Symphony, the Peoria Civic Opera Orchestra and has served as a faculty member in the annual Columbia Flute Society Festival.

Ott has also performed on National Public Radio on numerous occasions, and he was a finalist in the Erwin Bodkey Competition sponsored by the Cambridge Society for Early Music.
