COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 14, 2007)—Hal Ott, flutist, and the university’s
own Paul Thurmond, pianist, will present a concert entitled “Modern
Music: Passionate and Poetic” on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m.
in Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium.
Ott and Thurmond will perform original music by Maria Newman, along with
a variety of other pieces representing various nationalities and time
periods.
A Center Stage event, the show is free and open to the public.
On March 24, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Ott will present Flute Day workshops
and classes on flute performance and teaching. This will culminate with
a 3:00 p.m. concert by Ott and Thurmond.
A member of the faculty at Central Washington University, Ott teaches
flute and music history. He is also currently principal flute with the
Yakima Symphony.
He has been a member of the Peoria Symphony, the Peoria Civic Opera Orchestra
and has served as a faculty member in the annual Columbia Flute Society
Festival.
Ott has also performed on National Public Radio on numerous occasions,
and he was a finalist in the Erwin Bodkey Competition sponsored by the
Cambridge Society for Early Music.
