COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 9, 2007) – The United States Army Ground Forces Band will be in concert in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of Tennessee Tech University’s Bryan Fine Arts Building at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12.

Under the direction of the band’s commander, Maj. Daniel J. Steiger, the group maintains a large and varied repertoire, including all facets of traditional and contemporary wind literature, as well as orchestral transcriptions, marches, instrumental and vocal solos, popular tunes and patriotic music.

The Army Ground Forces Band was first organized in 1845 in Texas as the 4th Infantry Regiment Band. Its heritage spans the Mexican War, the Civil War, the War with Spain, the Philippine Insurrection and both World Wars.

Each of the 58 soldiers assigned to the band, which serves as an outreach asset for United States Army Forces Command, has passed a highly selective audition, and are among the finest musicians in the U.S. Army band program.

The majority of the band’s members have studied music at some of the finest universities and conservatories in this country and abroad.

The group’s concert at TTU is free and open to the public.
