COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 15, 2007) — The Brass Arts Quintet at Tennessee Tech University will be in concert on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wattenbarger Auditorium. The evening’s performance will include two world premieres by TTU composers Chris McCormick and Ben McMillan. The rest of the program will include works by Daniel Speer, John Stanley, Collier Jones and Paul Basler. The recital will conclude with two Latin American dances: Vals Venezolano by Cuban composer and jazz musician Paquito D’Rivera and La Cumparsita by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Matos Rodriguez. This concert is free and open to the public. The Brass Arts Quintet is Charles Decker and Chris McCormick, trumpets, Greg Danner, horn, Joshua Hauser, trombone, and R. Winston Morris, tuba.

TTU Music
A Bryan Symphony Orchestra concert will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m.

A Trombones at Tech studio recital is set for Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

A TTU percussion ensemble concert is set for Monday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m.

Appalachian Center for Craft
The Appalachian Center for Craft will present the 2007 Holiday Festival all Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 23, 24 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bachelor of Fine Arts senior thesis exhibitions will be showcased Oct. 21 through Nov. 25.

Joan Derryberry Gallery
An exhibit by TTU alumnus Skip Rohde will be on display from Oct. 29 through Nov. 27. A 1977 mechanical engineering graduate, Rohde had a 22-year career as a naval
officer before earning a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Using mostly oil on canvas, Rohde presents narrative painting within the realistic traditions and “examines controversial aspects of contemporary life.” He is currently examining the impacts of war. He will present a gallery talk at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Center Stage performance and lecture
Center Stage presents Magdalen Hsu-Li in performance and lecture on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Backdoor Playhouse. This event is free and open to the public. The first hour will feature a high-energy performance, “Smashing the Ceiling,” featuring Hsu-Li and her drummer on vocals, guitar, piano, drums and percussion. The second hour will be a interactive “human interest” lecture entitled, “Redefinition of Identity” that will explore the search for "cultural identity" through the personal story of the presenter asAsian American woman growing up in the rural south, overcoming obstacles such as racism, prejudice, stereotyping, homophobia, filial piety, and a severe disability (Tourette's syndrome).

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Hwy. 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
