COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2007) —Guest tenor Richard Cox will be in concert on Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger Auditorium. This Center Stage event is free and open to the public. The concert marks the re-opening of Wattenbarger Auditorium after a renovation project to install new lighting and audio-visual equipment. Cox is an alum of TTU’s music department. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education with a major in voice. He received his master’s degree in vocal performance at Florida State University, and thereafter attended the Julliard School of Music and received his artist diploma in voice.

Catherine Godes will present a faculty recital on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a Studio Voice Recital on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m.

The Bryan Symphony Orchestra will present a concert on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m.

Cody Threet and William Bridges will present a trumpet recital on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.

Appalachian Center for Craft

A metal exhibit by Trish Ramsay, entitled The Cultivation of Chance: New Work by Trish Ramsay, will be featured in Gallery Two from Oct. 5-Nov. 9.

Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Thesis Exhibitions will be showcased Oct. 21-Nov. 25.

Joan Derryberry Art Gallery

The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery will present Jarrod Houghton, a mixed media artist and MTSU Assistant Professor, in the gallery from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26.

“Roof of the World – Tibet”

Ngawang Losel will present a discussion called “Roof of the World – Tibet” on Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Bruner Hall Auditorium, Room 119. Losel will talk about the history, culture, philosophy and spiritual dimensions of Tibet. Losel, Nashville’s first Tibetan, will also share his personal courageous story of escaping Chinese-occupied Tibet and living as a young refugee in India and Israel before ending up in Nashville. A Center Stage event, the presentation is free and open to the public.

Bacchanal 2007
Bacchanal 2007, which supports art scholarships at Tennessee Tech University and the Appalachian Center for Craft, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Spankies Restaurant in Cookeville. The auction will begin at 2:30 p.m. Guests will receive commemorative wine and pint glasses and free valet parking. The event offers wine and beer tasting, a decadent cocktail buffet, the smooth sound of jazz music and a live auction of art and fine craft. Reservations for the Bacchanal are $35 per person in advance — through Friday, Oct. 26 — and $40 per person at the door.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Hwy. 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
