COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2008) — Tony Kushner’s award-winning
play “Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches” opens
at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, at TTU’s Backdoor Playhouse. Other
performances of the show, directed by Mark Creter and presented in TTU’s
Center Stage series, are set for 8 p.m. on Feb. 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and
March 1; 2 p.m. on Feb. 23; and 10 p.m. on Feb. 28. Tickets are $10 for
general admission, $8 for senior citizens, $5 for non-TTU students and
free to TTU students who show their Eagle Card identifications. The play
contains strong language, adult themes and sexually explicit material
that may not be suitable for younger audiences.
TTU Music
Tiffanii Brown will present a senior recital on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2
p.m.
Lauren DeLuca will present a student recital on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 3
p.m.
Erin Legard will present a junior voice recital on Sunday, Feb. 17, at
5 p.m.
William Elliott will present a senior recital on Sunday, Feb. 17, at
7:30 p.m.
There will be a university orchestra concert on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30
p.m.
Pops Night for Trumpet will be on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a jazz ensemble concert on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Shelley Collins and Debora Harris, flutists, assisted by Paul Thurmond
on piano, will present a flute recital on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a Mastersingers fundraiser concert on Saturday, Feb. 23,
at 7:30 p.m.
Appalachian Center for Craft
Mary Frisbee Johnson will present a metals and jewelry exhibit, entitled,
‘New Works in Tin and Silver’ Jan. 28 through March 10 in
the North Windows Gallery.
David Collins will present a mixed media teapots exhibit, entitled, “Functility
T’s Three’ Feb. 21 through March 28 in Gallery One.
Joan Derryberry Art Gallery
Zachary Orcutt’s mechanical sculpture exhibit will be shown Feb.
11 through March 7 in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery. Orcutt will present
a gallery talk at a reception on Thursday, Feb. 14. Orcutt has a bachelor
of fine art in sculpture from Syracuse University and a master of fine
art in sculpture from Bowling Green State University. He has taught at
the university level and is currently a production welder for the service
industry. His sculpture has been exhibited around the country and internationally
in Argentina and Italy.
Jeff Johnson presentation Feb. 18
BET television’s Jeff Johnson will present “Pulling Back the
Sheets: Hip-hop and Sexuality” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, in
Derryberry Hall Auditorium. His presentation is sponsored by TTU’s
Minority Affairs Office and Center Stage and is a part of the campus’s
Black History Month events.
Naomi Tutu presentation Feb. 18
Naomi Tutu, daughter of South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, will give
a presentation at TTU’s Derryberry Hall Auditorium at 4 p.m. on
Monday, Feb. 18. Her appearance is a part of TTU’s Black History
Month events.
"Stayin' Alive on Spring Break "
“Stayin’ Alive on Spring Break” is the topic of a presentation
this will be given at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in TTU’s Derryberry
Hall Auditorium. The presenter will be Erin Weed, founder of the Girls
Fight Back violence prevention seminar. It is a Center Stage event.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Hwy. 56
(Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor
of the University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Monday through Friday. The Backdoor Playhouse is located in Jere
