Student Body

The Fall 2005 enrollment of 9,313 includes 7,255 undergraduate students and 2,058 graduate students. Among the new students are 1,424 freshmen, 641 undergraduate transfer students, and 754 graduate students. Fifty-one percent of the students are females. Approximately 8.2 percent are from racial or ethnic minority groups. Ninety-seven percent are United States citizens, representing 39 states, while 282 are resident or nonresident aliens representing 62 foreign countries. Approximately 94 percent of the students are from Tennessee. Enrollment by curricular unit and academic level is displayed in the following table:
