No Cost Extension Policy

:: Request for Revisions | E-fillable PDF

Although the principal investigator is advised to contact the sponsor on an informal basis regarding requests for no-cost extension, however, all official requests for no-cost extension must be routed through the department chair and unit director and/or dean of the college to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. The request, which must be submitted at least thirty (30) days prior; 45 days for NSF-approved extensions to the expiration of the contract or grant, must include:

a) the rationale for no-cost extension;
b) work completed, and deliverables made as of the date of request;
c) funds expended and billed to sponsor as of the date of request;
d) work to be completed and deliverables to be made as of the date of the request;
e) funds remaining to complete work; and
f) duration (beginning and ending dates) of the contract or grant extension

After approval, the Office of Research and Graduate Studies will forward the request to the agency.

All work will terminate when the contract or grant expires unless approval of no-cost extension is obtained from sponsor.

It is important to check agency guidelines to determine whether a certificate of completion is required at the end of the contract or grant.
