"Check Out Tips"
by Jubal Parris
Spring Break has passed and summer is right around the corner.
Getting out of school is on everyone’s mind, but there are
several things to do before your students leave school for vacation.
There are several business-type preparations to make and those
can be found on the Residential Life homepage, but here are some
more general tips to get prepared for check-outs:
1. Make a to-do list of all the things that need to be done.
2. Start Early. Encourage students to begin taking non-necessary
belongings like clothing home a little at a time over the next
few weeks to avoid having too much to carry on their final trip
home.
3. Go through the odds and ends that have accumulated over the
semester. Throw away trash and give away things you don’t
need. However, it may be wise to keep notes and work from the
past semester just in case it might come in handy in the future.
4. Don’t wait until the last minute to clean and pack up.
Taking the slow and steady approach will make a big job seem smaller.
If the majority of the work is finished by finals week, then more
time can be spent studying.
5. Tie up any loose ends before you leave. Return things that
were borrowed, sell back textbooks, and most importantly of all
make sure not to forget anything!
