President’s Comments

 

President Bell welcomed members to the meeting.

 

President Bell expressed the importance of the SACS on-site committee review scheduled April for 11-13.  Dr. Stein will give an overview of the QEP later in today’s meeting to help prepare for the visit. 

 

The spring census information records TTU’s enrollment at 8,265, a record spring high.  Last year academic departments and Student Affairs embarked on efforts to help students retain lottery scholarships.  The headcount numbers reflect a mark of success.

 

Recently TTU served as one of 17 host sites for College Goal Sunday.  The free program helps families of college-bound students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Participants were able to complete the on-line application process on computers set-up in CH 212.  Students and their parents or companions attending numbered about 200.

 

Earlier today, Assistant Director of Facilities Glenn Binkley and the two main architects presented the floor-plan presentation boards for the Nursing School building.  Construction should begin in July 2006 and will take approximately 18 months to complete.

 

Five candidates have been selected for interview for the Vice President for Business and Fiscal Affairs position.  Everyone is encouraged to participate in the interview process for these candidates:

 

Pat Doyle - February 27 & 28

Steve Campbell - March 13 & 14

Claire Stinson - March 16 &17

Jim Sutherland - March 20 & 21 

Danny Gibbs - March 27 & 28

 

Banner is a complete overhaul of the University's computer system mandated by the state.  The implementation and installation of Banner was previewed.  TTU is in the cohort 2 list and will have a three-year implementation process.  Many units on campus will be altering current services to allow personnel to attend Banner training.

 

Windows on the World is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 (11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.).  The cultural event features performers, artists, craftspeople, chefs, booksellers and others with ethnic specialties.  Katie Kumar coordinates this free, family event in the University Center .

 

The annual Clerical and Support Staff brunch at Walton House is set for Thursday, April 27, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

 

Governor Bredesen has committed to speaking at the May 6 commencement.  Ground breaking for the Nursing Building may also be scheduled on this day while Governor Bredesen is on campus.

We were all saddened by the death of marketing professor Dr. Karl Mann.

 

Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

 

Dr. Stein presented an overview of the QEP using a PowerPoint presentation and handouts.  The 140 page full document is available on the web to educate the campus on the 5 year QEP plan.  The main focus of the QEP is to improve student learning.
