Acutely Hazardous Pharmaceutical Drugs
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that numerous chemicals pose significant risk to human health or the environment. Among these materials it has been determined that some are "acutely hazardous" and further restrictions related to their accumulation and disposal. These chemicals are commonly referred to as "P-Listed" materials. P-listed materials present a greater risk than other Hazardous Waste materials due to their toxicity, likelihood to react violently, or a combination of the two. Within the P-listed materials, 10 are commonly used Pharmaceutical drugs. These unused materials and their empty containers require disposal through the Safety and Environmental Services office.
