US Cadet Chess Championship Scholarship
US Cadet Chess Championship Scholarship

Tennessee Tech University is pleased to offer a four-year University Academic Service Scholarship to the second-place winner of the 2011 US Cadet Chess Championship which will be held in Crossville, Tennessee. This scholarship provides $5,000 per year for a total value of $20,000. Please note the following additional information and conditions regarding this scholarship:
- The winner does not have to be a high school senior - the scholarship will be available when the recipient will be a beginning first-year college student.
- The recipient must qualify for admission to Tennessee Tech University.
- The scholarship award entails part-time service on campus for a limited number of hours each semester (about 5 hours per week). There is not any salary associated with this service requirement.
- The recipient is eligible for only one four-year scholarship offered through the Scholarship Office; for example, the recipient would not be eligible for a second University Academic Service Scholarship based on ACT scores. However, the recipient does remain eligible for any departmental scholarships.
- Renewal of the scholarship is contingent on the student maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, full-time enrollment and providing 75 hours of service.
- Please note that this award may be reduced if the total value of all grants and scholarships (federal and state grants, and private, institutional and lottery scholarships) exceeds the total estimated cost of attendance, as determined by the TTU Office of Financial Aid. The total estimated cost of attendance includes all fees, housing (on campus of off-campus) or commuter costs, books, food and miscellaneous expenses. For the 2011-2012 academic year, the total estimated cost of attendance is $20,000. If the total value of all grants and scholarships exceeds the estimated cost of attendance at the time of the award, the amount of this scholarship will be reduced.
- At the end of the tournament, a TTU representative (Paul Semmes) will obtain the winner's name and address, and this information will be forwarded to the Scholarship Office. The student will be contacted by letter shortly after the tournament.
