Tennessee Tech University will offer the following scholarships in conjunction with the 2014 Tennessee State Scholastic Chess Championship Tournaments:

Additional information and conditions regarding these scholarships:

  1. The winner does not have to be a high school senior - the scholarship will be available when the recipient will be a beginning first-year college student.
  2. The recipient must qualify for admission to Tennessee Tech University.
  3. The scholarship award entails part-time service on campus for a limited number of hours each semester (about 5 hours per week). There is not any salary associated with this service requirement.
  4. The recipient is eligible for only one four-year scholarship offered through the Scholarship Office; for example, the recipient would not be eligible for a second University Academic Service Scholarship based on ACT scores. However, the recipient does remain eligible for departmental scholarships.
  5. Renewal of the scholarship is contingent on the student maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, full-time enrollment, and providing 75 hours of service.
  6. Please note that this award may be reduced if the total value of all grants and scholarships (federal and state grants, and private, institutional and lottery scholarships) exceeds the total estimated cost of attendance, as determined by the TTU Office of Financial Aid. The total estimated cost of attendance includes all fees, housing (on-campus or off-campus) or commuter costs, books, food and miscellaneous expenses. For the 2013-2014 academic year, the total estimated cost of attendance is $23,000. If the total value of all grants and scholarships exceeds the estimated cost of attendance at the time of the award, the amount of the scholarship will be reduced.
  7. At the end of the tournament, a TTU representative (Paul Semmes) will obtain the winner's name and address, and this information will be forwarded to the Scholarship Office. The student will be contacted by letter shortly after the tournament.
