Need Help Getting Started on Your School's Science & Engineering Fair?

The Cumberland Plateau Regional Science & Engineering Fair can offer assistance with access to International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) rules, guidelines, and forms.SE hypothesis_wb

  • The 60th Annual Cumberland Plateau Regional Science & Engineering Fair, will be hosted by Tennessee Tech’s Millard Oakley STEM Center on March 22, 2014.

2013-14 Quick Reference Timeline & Deadlines

NOVEMBER - EARLY MARCH: In-school fairs throughout the 16 county region.

  • After your school's fair, teachers may assist award-winning students in registering for the regional fair and/or provide those students and parent/guardians access to the science and engineering fair website and registration information.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 2 - REGISTRATION OPEN / CLICK HERE for Registration Information.

MONDAY, MARCH 3 - RESEARCH APPROVAL DEADLINE / CLICK HERE for Required Forms and Approvals Information.

  • IMPORTANT: Institutional Review Board (IRB) / Scientific Review Committee (SRC) Research Approval Signature Deadline (must be approved prior to beginning research)SE2014 march_calendar

MONDAY, MARCH 17 - RECOMMENDED LAST DAY TO HAVE AN IN-SCHOOL FAIR

  • It is recommended that school's have their fairs no later than Monday, March 17, in order for students to have time to register for the Regional Fair by 10pm on Tuesday, March 18.

TUESDAY, MARCH 18 - REGISTRATION CLOSES @ 10pm

  • Please have your school's fair no later than Monday, March 17th, 2014 in order for your students to register no later than Tuesday, March 18th.

SATURDAY, MARCH 22 | DAY OF THE FAIR

  • Exhibitor Check In: 7-9am
  • Break Before Judging Begins: 9-10:30am
  • Judging of Exhibits: 10:30am-2pm
  • Exhibits Open to Public: 2-4pm
  • Awards Ceremony: 4-5pm

Prepare For Your School’s Fair | Be Ready for the Regional Fair

  • Review the 2014 ISEF Rules, Guidelines and Required Forms.SE exhibit_3_wb
  • Review Board Presentation and Abstract Development (see below).
  • Start talking about the fair with your students and planning for the research projects (i.e. selecting a topic, creating a research plan, finding supplies and materials, etc.).
  • Review the Regional Fair Judging Rubrics (PDFs); the criteria outlined in the rubrics (Individual and Team) will be used to judge projects in March.

Student Research Outlines & Abstracts

  • All students should submit a detailed research outline for teacher review/approval prior to beginning any studies.
  • The research outline develops into the project abstract that is submitted during registration: 
    • 50-word abstract for Intermediate Division (4th-6th);
    • 100-word abstract for Junior (7th-9th) & Senior Divisions (10th-12th) explaining the research process.

Cross-Curricular OpportunitySE exhibits_1_wb

  • Consider science, math, language arts and art teachers partnering on science and engineering fair projects at their grade level (i.e. research, outlines, vocabulary, drafting/writing outlines/abstracts, preparing a presentation board [design, measurement, composition, etc.]).
