About Rachel

What is your favorite thing about TTU?

My favorite thing about Tech is the size. It’s not too big or too small. It’s big enough to feel like a real college experience, but small enough to be able to get to know a lot of different people and see them on campus almost daily.

What is your favorite quote?

“Cast all of your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22

What is your most memorable TTU experience so far?

My most memorable experience at Tech has been being involved in my sorority. I never pictured myself as a “sorority girl,” but it has helped me grow as a leader and a person in so many ways. It is definitely an experience that I believe will help me in my future

How did you choose your major?

I entered Tech as a general curriculum student because I was unsure of my major. I decided on Elementary Education my sophomore year because I have always loved working with children, and I knew it was something that I would be good at and enjoy.

What is your favorite meal at TTU?

My favorite meal is a salad at Fresh Fusion in the Grill!

Advice for incoming college freshmen from your experience so far.

I lived in New Hall South when I was a freshman, and I met so many people in my residence hall that I am still friends with 3 years later. Don’t be afraid to get out of your room, meet other people in your building, and make new friends! It’s easy to feel intimidated by being around so many new people but just remember they probably feel the same way and would love to make new friends as well.

What is your favorite TTU Tradition and why?

My favorite TTU Tradition is The Blizzard. I had always heard about it, and I finally got to be a part of a Blizzard in January at the boys’ basketball game. It was so neat to see and be a part of. Pictures really don’t do it any justice!

What kind of extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus and in the community?

I am the President of a Panhellenic sorority, a member of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and I keep score for Intramural Sports on campus. In the community, I regularly attend Stevens Street Baptist Church.

What movie star would you play in a movie? Why?

Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama! She has always been my favorite actress and this is my all time favorite movie.

What was your biggest mistake as a freshman? What did you learn from that experience?

I didn’t realize how different college was from high school. I never had to study in high school, but quickly realized college is completely different. You have to be fully committed to your classes, even if that means missing out on a social event every now and then. You’ll be glad you did it in the long run!

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book is Heaevn is For Real by Todd Burpo.
