My favorite thing about Tennessee Tech would have to be our size. I love that when I walk to class I run into tons of people I know and even recognize from other classes. The professors and staff can get to the point of calling you by name and talking to you outside of the classroom, going above and beyond what’s expected. These things go on to make a student feel less like a number and more like an actual part of our university.
My most memorable Tech moment would have to be when I and two girls I had just met in my residence hall decided to go to a football game one Saturday. We got all dressed up in our purple & gold and went to the game. About 15 minutes into the game, it started POURING rain. We ended up running all the way back to Capital Quad. When we got back we took a picture to document the moment. We’ve been best friends ever since.
I chose my major, Civil Engineering, because of my grandfather. He and I went to Starbucks everyday and we would talk about all kinds of things. But the topic that I found most interesting, were the stories about his job. He was sent all over the continent as an engineer and I wanted to be apart of that so we could compare stories one day. Plus, I love math!
My favorite food at Tech would have to be the Au Bon Pain. I love the soup and sandwich combo they offer! The soups change daily and the sandwiches are made fresh to order, it’s magically delicious!
Meet as many people as possible! Whether it’s by joining a club, organization, sport teams, or Greek Life. A great part about college is that there are so many options and activities to take part in that you’re bound to find your niche and a great group of people to surround yourself with.
My favorite tradition would have to be Shinny Ninny. I love that added level of competiveness with MTSU over the totem pole. I can’t wait until we get it back!
Other than being a fabulous Student Orientation Assistant, I’m also apart of Greek Life here at Tech, a math tutor (ask me for help!), a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, KME (Math Honor Society), the senior honor society; Mortar Board, Tech Activities Board (Give-Away Chair) and I am a Student Admissions Representative. I also attend a local church in Cookeville and love the atmosphere there!
I would play Ashley Tisdale in the High School Musical movies. I would love the opportunity to break out into song and dance at any given moment! She is fabulous in the movies and leads a life of glamour, power, and fights for what she wants; I want that for myself one day (not to mention the singing as I go along).
My biggest mistake what doing the bare minimum when I was a freshman. I didn't get active in clubs on campus, I keep to a close group of friends, and I only did what was required in school. In consequence when I got into higher-level classes I couldn’t remember a lot of material because I only learned what I was being tested on in the previous classes. Not to mention I was missing out on a lot of opportunities being offered for my major and leadership growth.
My favorite book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. You can never go never wrong with the classics. I love the diction and, come on, who doesn’t love the 20’s?!
