The Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech University is looking for volunteers to help make bowls and wedge clay at its annual Bowlathon from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

Volunteers are needed to wheel-throw or handbuild bowls, or to prepare clay for the throwers in the Craft Center's clay studio. At this one-day event, volunteers make about 1,500 bowls to be sold at “Cookin’ on the Square,” Cookeville’s annual benefit for Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. We are their primary supplier of bowls for this event. This year’s Cookin’ on the Square will be Friday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Courthouse Square in Cookeville.

The Craft Center is looking for people who have some throwing or handbuilding experience. The Bowlathon is not set up to teach people to make bowls because of the quantity of bowls to be made. Anyone who doesn’t throw or handbuild bowls but would like to be involved is encouraged to come wedge clay to keep the throwers and handbuilders supplied.

There will be donuts and beverages all day and pizza at lunch.
