Another year of academic excellence is underway and for many that will include working with chemicals or disposing of hazardous waste materials.
Training modules for your annual Right-to-Know training and RCRA/Hazardous Waste are available at http://www.tntech.edu/safety/training/. With the exception of personnel whose functions are strictly clerical, these training requirements extend to all department personnel including work-study students, graduate assistants and teaching assistants.
The state of Tennessee requires annual Right-to-Know training for anyone who works with chemicals as part of their job duties. This training explains where to find chemical-specific information regarding personal protective equipment, hazards of various materials and other information that allows you to complete work in a safe and efficient manner.
Hazardous waste training as dictated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) is also required annually for anyone who generates, handles or directs the generation or handling of hazardous waste.
To address these requirements, Tennessee Tech University uses online training modules available from computers on the campus network. Instructions for accessing the training modules are available at the above link. Additionally, personnel who have not previously completed the fire extinguisher module are required to do so.
