Experience explorations with chemistry, life science, technology and physical science for young children. Participants will rotate through a variety of stations to investigate various science concepts. Activities will focus on Tennessee state science standards for Pre-K to K. Participants will be involved in developmentally appropriate strategies to convey science process skills for young children.
Turn ordinary science experiments into inquiry investigations where students ask and answer their own questions. Participants will experience an overview of inquiry instruction, participate in sample investigations and receive sample lesson plans. Workshop activities are aligned with the Framework for K-12 Science Education guidelines.
Don’t let the new Common Core Math Standards scare you! This workshop will explore many ways to plan activities for algebra-related math in the early childhood classroom. Participants will have opportunities to interact with each other, as well as with math materials.
This interactive workshop will provide practical strategies for developing math-proficient 3rd and 4th graders as defined in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Participants will experience an overview of the CCSSM, linkage of current teaching materials to the CCSSM, and numerous ideas for implementation of the new standards.
This workshop focuses on content and practices in the Grades 5-6 common core state standards and will provide strategies for teaching both the common core and current curriculum standards during these transitional years. Active learning and hands-on manipulatives will be used.
This workshop focuses on content and practices/processes in the Grades 7-8 common core state standards, and also provides strategies for teaching both the common core and current curriculum standards during these transitional years. Active learning and hands-on manipulatives will be used.
Content and mathematical applications for high school physics are the focus of this intensive workshop. The goal of the course is to enhance physics and mathematical content understandings of current physics teachers, to prepare teachers to pass the high school Praxis II Physics Test, and add this licensure. This year the focus is on Mechanics and Conservation laws. Additional topics will be addressed in following years.
