Information for Parents: 2012 EXPLORATIONS Day Camp
June 18-22 (M-F) / Age Appropriate for 3rd-5th & 6th-8th Graders

Workshop Fees, Materials & Lunch

  • $250 for the week (Monday - Friday). Workshop Fee Includes all activity supplies and materials; snacks are included.STEM chemistry girl wb
  • Students MUST bring their own lunch and drinks.
  • Drink machines are available on-site ($1.25); refrigeration is available.
  • REGISTRATION REQUIRED; NO WALK-IN REGISTRATION

Grade Level

  • Activities are appropriate for 3rd - 5th and 6th - 8th graders.

Sign In/Out: Parent/Guardian MUST Bring Child In & Out of STEM Center

Sign In: 8am - 8:30am

  • A parent/guardian must accompany the child/children into the STEM Center building to sign in each day of EXPLORATIONS.

Sign Out: 3:30pm - 4pmSTEM FF robot test

  • At the end of the daily EXPLORATION, parent/guardians must enter the building to sign out the child/children for the day.

Emergency Info & Photo Release Form

  • Parents/guardians please print and complete the Emergency Information & Photo Release Form and bring with you during sign-in the day of your child’s/children’s workshop(s).
  • The STEM Center/TTU would like to use images of students participating in the workshops to promote these programs and opportunities for other children in print and online. Please complete the Photo/Video Release section, only if you give us permission to use your child’s likeness in promotional materials.

EXPLORATIONS Certificate of Completion

  • Student participants will receive an EXPLORATIONS Day Camp Certificate of Completion at the end of the week.

  • 8-8:30am: Sign In

  • 8:30-10am: Hands-On ActivitiesSTEM FuelCellCar wb

  • 11:25-11:55am: Virtual Theater

  • 12-12:30pm: Lunch for 3rd-5th; PE for 6th-8th (see REMINDER below)

  • 12:30-1pm: Lunch for 6th-8th; PE for 3rd-5th (see REMINDER below)

  • 1:05-3:30pm: Hands-On Activities

  • 3:30-4pm Sign Out

 REMINDER: Though morning snacks are provided, participants MUST bring their own lunch and drinks (drink machines available, $1.25)

 

EXPLORATION Topics
Activities & Projects are Age Appropriate

ROCKETS! FUEL CELLS! SLIME! SNAKES & LIZARDS! CHEMISTRY OF MAKE-UP!

Day Campers will...

  • Learn about fuel cells, rockets, chemical reactions, algae & slime, make-up, birdhouses, and MORE!group workshop2 pic
  • Watch and interact with live salamanders, snakes, turtles and lizards!  (Interaction is optional.)
  • Perform dissections of owl pellets and/or frogs.
  • Construct rockets, build and test fuel cells with different energy sources!
  • Videotape a chemical reaction and create a poster from the videotape!
  • Formulate a line of toiletries (cologne, aftershave, make-up, lip balm)!
  • Fabricate objects using engineering processes and learn about the engineering profession!
  • Tour the Universe in the STEM Center's Virtual Theater!
  • Take a break from the lab activities and get some exercise each day!
  • Campers will take home the objects they create!

Camp Instructors

  • Campers will spend the day with scientists, chemists, biologists, engineers, teachers and professors!
  • All instructors have experience working with students of all ages and STEM topics are their specialty.
  • Each day of the camp students will explore at least two topics while working with a minimum of two separate instructors.

  • The Millard Oakley STEM Center is located in Ray Morris Hall on TTU’s campus in Cookeville, TN.STEM front building
  • 155 West 7th Street; corner of 7th Street and Stadium Drive.

 

Parking & Entrance

  • After parking in the university commuter lots on the north side of the STEM Center (off Stadium Drive), enter via the covered walkway located at the north/main entrance of Ray Morris Hall into the lobby of the STEM Center.

Online Registration: The MarketPlace Store

  • The STEM Center uses an online registration system called MarketPlace.STM bio chemLS2
  • Please select the appropriate age level: 3rd - 5th Graders and 6th - 8th Graders.

How to Register

  • Simply select the appropriate grade level EXPLORATIONS Day Camp that you would like to purchase and add it to your "shopping cart."
  • Each child must register or be registered individually.
  • Please follow the instructions for credit card payment/check out.
  • MarketPlace accepts: VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express & Debit Cards.
  • MarketPlace cannot complete the registration without a valid card number to complete the transaction.
  • Pre-Registration ONLY for the entire week; no "walk in" registration available on the day(s) of the camp.

Registration Confirmation

Refunds
