Appropriate for 4th-12th Grade Teachers / July 20 & July 21 (6 credit hrs)
General Information
- Sign In for all day (8:30am-3:30pm) sessions is from 8-8:30am.

- Sign in for 1/2 day (9am-12pm) sessions is from 8:30-9am.
- Sign in is from 12:30-1pm for workshops running from 1pm-3pm.
- Workshop fee includes registration, consumables, and any take-home kits or resources.
Location
- The Millard Oakley STEM Center is located at 155 West 7th Street in Cookeville, Tennessee. The facility is on TTU's campus at the corner of 7th Street and Stadium Drive.

Parking & Entrance
- After parking in the university commuter lots on the north side of the STEM Center (off Stadium Drive), enter via the covered walkway located at the north/main entrance of Ray Morris Hall into the lobby of the STEM Center.
Emergency Information & Photo/Video Release Form
- If you are participating in a PD workshop, PLEASE PRINT AND COMPLETE the Emergency Information & Photo Release Form (PDF) and bring with you to sign-in the morning of your workshop. You are only required to complete your contact and emergency information.
- The STEM Center would also like to use images of participants in PD workshops to promote these opportunities for teachers in print and online.
- Complete the Photo/Video Release section, only if you give us permission to use your likeness in promotional materials.

Saturday, July 13 / 8:30am - 3:30pm / 6 hrs credit / $60
STEM Center User Group Training / Grades K-12
- Instructors: Sally Pardue and NASA STEM Liaisons
- Gain knowledge and confidence in leading standards-aligned, hands-on activities utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and resources available through the Oakley STEM Center.
- Become a member of the STEM Center’s lending library and qualify for FREE field trips to the STEM Center for your students.
- Lunch included in July 13 workshop.

Wednesday, July 17 / 9am - 3pm / 6 hrs credit / $75
Next Generation Science Standards for Elementary Teachers, Team Leaders and Administrators / Grades K-5
- Instructor: Kelly Ramey

- Gain insight into the changes taking place in science education standards with the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- Learn what NGSS are, how to read them, how to connect them within and across grade bands, and how to tie them to the Common Core State Standards in Math and English/Language Arts.
- This course is taught in a "train the trainer" style so you can return to your districts and schools and share your knowledge of the NGSS.
Wednesday & Thursday, July 17-18 / 9am - 3pm / 12 hrs credit / $150
Implementing the CCSSM for K-2 Grades
- Instructors: Jane Baker, Leann Taylor, Jennifer Meadows
- Learn practical strategies for developing math proficient K-2 students as defined in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
- Experience an overview of the CCSSM, linkage of current teaching materials to the CCSSM, and numerous ideas for implementation of the new standards.

- Build on Saturday and launch on Sunday! PLUS...you get to keep the rocket!

- Help your students soar to new heights of understanding and excitement.
- Join the Oakley STEM Center as we explore new ways to teach GLEs and CLEs related to energy, motion, mechanics and natural forces using model rocketry.
- Participants will discuss the underlying principles of rocket flight and NASA exploration with a NASA Aerospace Education Specialist as they build and launch a rocket in this two-day event.
Topics covered will include:
- speed and velocity;
- gravitational forces;
- potential and kinetic energy;
- conservation of energy;
- and Newton’s Laws of Motion!

Monday & Tuesday, July 15-16 / 9am - 3pm / 12 hrs credit / $150
TNSCORE Kits for Your Classroom / Grades 5-8
- Instructor: Kelly Ramey
- Achieve certification and confidence in utilizing hands-on classroom kits supplied by TNSCORE (Tennessee Solar Conversion and Storage using Outreach, Research and Education).
- Teachers completing this course will be able to check out sets of classroom kits and standards-aligned curricula covering solar energy, wind power, and hydrogen fuel cells.

Formative Assessment and Writing in Mathematics in Grades 5-6
- Instructor: Holly Anthony
- Explore methods to include formative assessment and writing tasks in your mathematics teaching. Strategies are specific to mathematics content in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM).
- Receive materials to use in your classroom.
- Lunch included.

If you register for STEM Center Professional Development training workshops through your school system's MY LEARNING PLAN...YOU MUST ALSO REGISTER THROUGH THE STEM CENTER'S ONLINE MARKETPLACE.
Registering with Putnam County's MY LEARNING PLAN does not automatically register you with the STEM Center programs.
Registration Information
- Talk to your supervisor to determine which sessions apply to your In-Service requirements.
- Check with your supervisor regarding the availability of funds for your registration.
- You may register for more than one workshop.
- Each teacher must register or be registered individually.
- Pre-registration only; there is no “walk-in” registration available on the days of the workshops.

Registration Confirmation & Refunds
- You will receive an automatic confirmation from the MarketPlace system that your registration was received.
- If your session does not have the necessary minimum number of participants registered by May 1, you will be contacted to determine an appropriate, alternate workshop.
- The STEM Center will refund registration fees for any workshops that are canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
- Refunds are not offered for workshops that “make.”

Implementing Next Generation Science Standards Using Technology
July 9 | 8:30am - 3:30pm | FREE Workshop
Suggested Workshop Fee: $25 per person / TTU's Oakley STEM Center is offering the workshop for FREE.
As a designated STEM HUB, Tennessee Tech's Oakley STEM Center invites High School and Middle School teachers to attend this FREE one-day, hands-on workshop focused on integrating Next Generation Science Standards with technology, data collection tools, and mathematics through STEM activities. (NOTE: while middle school science teachers are welcome to attend, the content is high school-focused)

- TI-Nspire Teacher Software / Full License ($155 value)
- Workshop Lesson Plans and Activities
- Certificate of Attendance for 6 hour workshop
