SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS
"Iron Eagle 300 lb Clean Team"!
Iron Eagle 300-lb Clean Team
TTU Football began the off-season with only two players in the "300 lb Clean Team." 23 players were added this spring and summer bringing our total to 25!
CLEAN TEAM
Brandon Harris, Kelechi Ordu, Charlie Seivers, Bradley Thompson, Steve Buffington, Cole Cassidy, Taylor Askew, Dedrick Miley, Evan Moran, Calvin Smith, Derrian Waters, Cody Spivey, Scott Eller, Henry Sailes, Billy Bates, Ray Coleman, Dustin Dillehay, Donald Frost, Gerel Harlan, Martini Hilliard, Jake McIntosh, Jon Paz, Josh Paz, Scott Schweitzer, Ryan Weeks
Dedrick Miley has increased his Bench Press by 70 lb since he has been at Tech. Steve Buffington is just entering his freshman year, but he came to summer training already pressing 375 lb. Within 3 weeks he jumped to 405. We are confident he will make even greater strides this off-season.
*Even more importantly, both of these linemen can Power Clean over 300 lb.
In at least one major way, Big Ray will be a new man this coming season. He has lost over 50 lbs of unnecessary weight. During this time, he has worked hard at keeping his strength levels high and he is certainly enjoying his new running ability. We are very proud of Ray's dedication this summer.
By not missing even one day of training this summer, Ray showed someimpressive work ethic. Now power cleaning 300 lb along with his legit 4.4 electronic-timed speed, Ray is always a threat with the ball.
Purdy has been a tremendous worker and leader for our football team. This off-season he worked hard at developing additional strength & power necessary for his position in the secondary. He increased his bench press and power clean by 25 lb and his back squat by 70 lb.
Anyone who has seen Henry return a punt or kickoff knows he is gifted with speed. This off-season he has made great strides that should add to his performance on the field. He increased his bench press by 50 lb totalling 365 lb. And, this summer he recently had his name added to the "Clean Team" with a 305 lb power clean. Keep in mind, this is at a bodyweight of 165 lb!
Charlie had one of the best off-seasons of any of our athletes. He made some impressive gains in strength, speed, and power while also changing his body composition. His bench press increased by 35 lb and he cleaned 335 lb jumping 60 lb from last winter.
Maurice truly emerged as a leader of the football team this summer. Not only did he have perfect attendance throughout the off-season, but he also logged extra workouts nearly every day! His power clean saw the most benefit increasing by 40 lb over the summer.
Lee was honored as the Conference Newcomer of the Year during his freshman season. However, due to a knee injury, his sophomore season did not turn out as he had hoped. So, this off-season Lee has dedicated himself to changing his body. He lost an impressive 25 lb during winter conditioning by paying close attention to his eating habits and performing additional conditioning sessions. At this new bodyweight, he tested extremely well this summer by increasing his bench press by 35 lbs and his clean by 25 lb.
Antonio is planning to be an impact-player this fall. We've seen Antonio's work habits change dramatically within the last six months, and it's been worthy of attention. He began the off-season by shedding 15 lb of unnecessary weight and has been able to gain in his strength levels at the same time. This has demanded some diligent effort on his part by working through extra conditioning sessions at 6:00am throughout the off-season.
Derrian is certainly one of the hardest working student-athletes at TTU. When you watch him run the ball, he takes pride in not allowing the first man to take him down. This is a result of his physical and mental toughness. He worked hard this off-season to change his body, losing 15 lb while also gaining strength - earning his way onto the Clean Team.
John has a relentless work ethic. He was a great leader during his final year. He placed his name in the top 5 of nearly every strength and conditioning category, including a 315 lb Power Clean, 405 lb Bench Press, and 595 lb Squat. His leg and core strength is evident in the video as he Front Squats 365 pounds for five solid reps.
Allison is setting the groundwork for a great senior year. Her numbers make her one of the most well-rounded athletes we have coached. She bench presses 155 lb, cleans 135 lb and she can perform 23 chinups. You can see her athleticism through the various drills in the highlight video.
