Admission to Teacher Education

Requirements for Admission

  1. A formal application must be filed once a student has reached 30 or more credit hours excluding ADP (For nonpost-bac Undergraduates)
  2. Minimum of a 2.500 GPA
  3. Completion of the Following Classes (For nonpost-bac Undergraduates)
    • ENGL 1010 and 1020 with a C or higher
    • FOED 2011 or equivalent with a B or higher
      • For ARED-ARED 2020
      • For HEC- HEC 1000
      • For AGED- AGED 2120
    • FOED 1820/1822 with a B or higher (exempt from this class if you had one of the above equivalent
  4. Testing
    • Undergraduates- PPST(Praxis I Exam)
      • Reading (174)
      • Math (173)
      • Writing (173)
        • Test codes for the PAPER-BASED testing for Praxis 1 are as follows:
          • Reading- 0710
          • Writing- 0720
          • Math- 0730
        • Test codes for the COMPUTER­-BASED testing for Praxis 1 are as follows:
          • Reading-5710
          • Writing-5720
          • Math-5730
    • Exemptions for taking the Praxis I exam are:
      • ACT (Composite of 22)
      • SAT (1020)
    • Post-bacs- The above testing exemptions ONLY apply to post-bacs who are enrolled as undergraduates. Post-bac students who are enrolled with the graduate school MUST take the MAT (372) or the GRE (900/4.0) instead.
  5. Completion of the background check authorization form.
  6. Completion of the required background check through COGENT.
  7. Application for admission to the program (This form is submitted online and you MUST have your TNumber to fill it out)
  8. Four Disposition Assessments (This form is submitted online and you MUST have your TNumber to fill it out).
    (This requirement does not apply to those who are getting the AST Degree through the 2+2 program)
    • The four dispositions MUST come from the following people. You WILL need their email address!!!!
      • Academic Advisor
      • College Level Education Instructor (Ex. FOED 2011 or EDPY 2200)
      • College Instructor in Major Teaching Field (Ex. History, Math, English, etc ;)
      • K-12 Teacher/Principal/Counselor (Does not have to be someone who had you in class. Just any public school teacher that knows you well enough to properly fill one out to meet requirements.)

*A post-bac student is someone who already has a bachelors or higher degree. If that does not apply to you then ignore the post-bac information. Post-bacs are allowed to take up to 9 hours their first semester as a graduate student and up to 12 hours as an undergraduate student. They will have one semester only to complete the requirements for Applying to Teacher Education program. If there are any further questions, please contact my office.

You CANNOT take any of the following classes without being admitted to the Teacher Education Program.
