Criminal Background Check Requirements

The following information is only applicable for Admission to Teacher Education! These requirements do not meet Student Teaching Requirements. Please see Criminal Background Check Information under Student Teaching.

49-5-5610. Requirements for entering teacher training programs.

All students wishing to enter approved teacher training programs
shall be required to:

1. Supply a fingerprint sample and submit to a criminal history records
   check to be conducted by the Tennessee bureau of investigation (TBI) and the
   federal bureau of investigation (FBI): and
2. Agree that the TBI may send to the teacher training program information
   indicating the results of the criminal history records check. The results
   will indicate whether the applicant has a criminal conviction that would
   result in automatic revocation of a teacher's license pursuant to this
   chapter and under Tennessee Rules of State Board of Education.

As a result all students filing for admission to the TTU Teacher Education
Program must

1. Complete the Applicant Waiver Form
2. Complete the Authorization for Background Check Form. Contact COGENT
   SYSTEMS at http://www.tennessee.cogentid.com to begin the process.

• Option #1: Pay with a money order ($48.00) on site at one of the COGENT
  locations. Call 1-877-862-2425 to schedule an appointment. When you arrive
  for the appointment, you must have the money order payable to COGENT.
• Option #2: Pay in advance with credit or debit card ($48.00). Call
  1-800-964-7690 to provide debit/credit card information. A payment
  confirmation # will be issued. Call 1-877-862-2425 to schedule an
  appointment with COGENT to complete the process.
