Office of Teacher Education

To become a teacher in Tennessee you must complete a licensure program at an approved College or University and then be licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education. The state approves programs and sets requirements for which Tennessee institutions can offer teacher preparation programs. Tennessee Technological University offers many undergraduate programs that prepare students for their initial teacher license in an array of K-12 school subjects. Post baccalaureate students may also be prepared with or without an advanced degree.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher we encourage you to click on "Programs of Study" to review the programs offered by Tennessee Tech University. Please go to "Field and Clinical Practice" to review what school-based experiences you will have as a licensure candidate. Please refer to the Benchmarks for Residency or the Benchmarks for Student Teaching for information regarding requirements and deadlines.
