Teaching license application for an initial teaching license, an ILLA or ILLB or an additional endorsement which required coursework must be submitted through the University where you completed the coursework/program. The Tennessee Department of Education will accept applications for endorsements added by Praxis exam only and applications to have a degree added to your license directly. (You do not need to go through Tennessee Tech to add an endorsement by test only)

***The Tennessee Department of Education has information on their standard processing time for applications and information on printing a copy of your license on their website. Beginning July 1, 2012 the Tennessee Department of Education stopped printing and mailing teaching licenses.
***Highly Qualified Status is not submitted or updated by Tennessee Technological University. Contact your school system to have the proper forms submitted for your Highly Qualified Status to be updated or added to your licenses.

Applying for an Initial Apprentice Teaching License
The application paperwork for an initial teaching license must be submitted by the University. The TTU Office of Teacher Education processes this paperwork for students completing a Bachelors degree and teacher licensure or completing the post bac licensure program at Tennessee Technological University.
Student Teachers or Students Completing Residency I & II should NOT complete this form until instructed to do so. You will receive information on when to complete the form during your final semester.
The Application process at TTU:
- Begin the process by completing and submitting the application. (Enter your information as you want it to appear on your Tennessee Teaching License. Before submitting make sure your information is correct and you have used correct capitalization, abbreviations and punctuation.)
- After your information is submitted the TTU Office of Teacher Education will process your submission. An application and transcript request form will be generated using the information you submitted.
Please Note :
- The application form and transcript request form must be printed, signed and returned to the TTU Office of Teacher Education. Students will be given further information during their final semester regarding this.
- The TTU Office of Teacher Education must have original forms to submit your license. Fax/email copies will not be accepted.
- An official copy of your Praxis scores must be on file at Tennessee Technological University before your application paperwork is submitted to the Tennessee Department of Education.
- Applications cannot be processed until all grades and degrees are posted.
- Once the semester ends students should allow a minimum of 4 weeks for applications to be submitted to the Tennessee Department of Education.
The Tennessee Department of Education has information regarding their processing time, Highly Qualified Status and printing of applications on their webpage. Highly Qualified Status is submitted or updated by a school system, not the University.
Adding a Degree
Advanced Degree Applications may be submitted directly to the Tennessee Department of Education.
Students should request a Student Official transcript sent to himself or herself from the TTU Records Office. Submit the transcript and the 1 page application found at the Tennessee Department of Education website as a packet to the Tennessee Department of Education.

Applying for an Additional Endorsement to be added to an current Teaching License
Endorsements being added by test only may be submitted directly to the Tennessee Department of Education. Information for this process is found under #2 at the Tennessee Department of Education website.
Students who have completed coursework to add an endorsement must submit their application paperwork through the University where the coursework/additional endorsement program was completed.

- After your information is submitted the TTU Office of Teacher Education will process your submission. An application and transcript request form will be generated using the information you submitted and returned by to you by email. This is not an automated process. Our goal is to return your application within 2 working days. Please keep in mind during peak times (such as the end of the semester) this may not be possible.
- Read the email with the attachments carefully to complete the application process. The email attachments must be completed, printed, signed and returned to the TTU Office of Teacher Education.

- An official copy of your Praxis scores must be on file at Tennessee Technological University before your application paperwork is submitted to the Tennessee Department of Education.

- Applications not waiting for grades to be posted or the end of the semester should allow a minimum of 2 weeks for applications to be submitted to the Tennessee Department of Education.

Applying for an Administrator’s License
The application paperwork for an Administrator’s License must be submitted by the University. The TTU Office of Teacher Education processes this paperwork for students completing the ILLA or ILLB program at Tennessee Technological University.
The Application process should be started and completed during your last semester in the program.
The Application process at TTU:
- Begin the process by completing and submitting the application. (Enter your information as you want it to appear on your Tennessee Teaching License. Before submitting make sure your information is correct and you have used correct capitalization, abbreviations and punctuation.)
- After your information is submitted the TTU Office of Teacher Education will process your submission. An application and transcript request form will be generated using the information you submitted and returned by to you by email. This is not an automated process. Our goal is to return your application within 2 working days. Please keep in mind during peak times (such as the end of the semester) this may not be possible.
- Read the email with the attachments carefully to complete the application process. The email attachments must be completed, printed, signed and returned to the TTU Office of Teacher Education.
- Students must submit a completed Experience Verification Form with their application and a transcript request form.
Please Note :
***On September 1, 2011 the Beginning Administrator’s License (BAL) was replaced by the ILLA and ILLB license. After December 1, 2011 the Tennessee Department of Education will not accept applications for the BAL license.

Transitional License

Occupational License
Tennessee Technological University offers the Occupational Licensure Program for individuals with a current Apprentice Occupational License working toward a Professional Occupational License. The Occupational Licensure Program consists of 18 hours of course work. The coursework is available on campus or online through RODP.
The requirements and application for obtaining an Apprentice Occupational License and for advancing to a Professional Occupational License are on the Tennessee Department of Education website.
Candidates who wish to complete the Occupational Licensure Program must complete a Transcript Analysis Request and be admitted to the University before he or she will be allowed to register for classes.
Notes on Completing the Transcript Analysis Request:
- The Transcripts Request form is used for all of Tennessee Technological University Post Bac Licensure and Additional Endorsement programs. Occupational Candidates should disregard the section asking for previous colleges attended.
- A Bachelor’s degree is not required for the Occupational Program.
- Occupational candidates who have prior college coursework should list the institution and request an official transcript from the college sent to the TTU Office of Teacher Education.
- The Occupational Program is listed in the Post-Bac Programs drop down menu as Career Technical.
