I am pleased to offer my welcome to the Teacher Education Program at TTU. I hold the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and serve as the Director of Teacher Education. I received my Bachelor's degree in Special Education with an additional endorsement in elementary education, my Master's in Special Education, my Ed.S in Curriculum/Reading from TTU and my Doctorate from Tennessee State University. I facilitate the introductory foundations courses, FOED 2011, 1820, and 1822 and teach courses in literacy. I have published and coauthored one teacher resource book for storytellers, two editions of an elementary reading textbook, one edition of a middle school reading textbook, and one textbook/handbook for student teachers and field experience candidates. I regularly present staff development programs for local school systems on a variety of topics and am involved in a number of professional organizations. Prior to joining the faculty at TTU, I was a public school teacher. I hold endorsements in elementary education, special education, gifted education, and am a licensed reading specialist.
I know you will enjoy your educational experience with us. Please feel free to contact me, or my staff members, any time you have questions or concerns regarding your licensure program.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sandy H. Smith
Director of Teacher Education
