Auditions for the spring production of "A
Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams will be held
from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, March 1 and 2, at the Backdoor
Playhouse.
Roles are available for six men and six women,
ranging in ages from mid-teens to early 50s.
Casting is open to all people who are interested,
and I would like to encourage persons of minority backgrounds to
try out, says Playhouse Director Mark Creter.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the
script, copies of which are available for 24-hour checkout from
Creters office, located in South 225.
"A Streetcar Named Desire" hit theaters
in 1946 and cemented Williams' reputation as a great American playwright,
earning him both a New York Critics Circle Award and a Pulitzer
Prize.
This will be the first Tennessee Williams play
produced at the Backdoor Playhouse since the 1996 critically acclaimed
production of "The Glass Menagerie" directed by Creter.
Rehearsals are set for late March and April, and
performances are scheduled from April 29 through May 8.
The Backdoor Playhouse is located at the rear
of the Jere Whitson Building.
For more information, call Creter at 3478.
