| Everyone
who has been a part of Tennessee Tech athletics — and everybody
who would like to be — will be treated to a tailgate party
and picnic on Saturday, May 8, when Athletics hosts its first "Gathering
of Eagles."
The picnic, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
at the campus tennis courts, will serve as a thank you to fans,
supporters, donors, advertisers and season ticket holders. The tailgate
party leads up to the 1 p.m. Golden Eagle baseball doubleheader
against Samford.
The event features a complimentary lunch, and
participants will have a chance to meet and talk with coaches and
players from many of Tech's teams.
"We're looking for this to become a special
event to say 'thank you' to everyone who has been a friend of Tech
athletics, and a chance for new fans to learn about our program,"
says Frank Harrell, interim athletics director.
"Most of our student-athletes and staff will
be there, and fans can meet them outside of the field of competition,"
Harrell says. "It should be a very enjoyable day."
In addition to the picnic, the TTU football team
will host a benefit car wash from 9 to 11 a.m. at Tucker Stadium,
with all proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society's
Relay for Life (see related story).
The day will also provide an opportunity for interested
fans to get a headstart on football, with the beginning of season
ticket sales for the 2004 season.
At 1 p.m., first-year coach Matt Bragga's Golden
Eagle baseball team will host Samford in a doubleheader at the Averitt
Express Baseball Complex. Admission is free.
While the picnic-tailgate party is also free,
reservations are required. Call 3940 by Thursday, May 6. |
