Tech Players' participation in V-Day 2005 addresses violence against women

The pursuit for the end of violence against women and girls comes to campus again in the form of Eve Ensler’s Obie Award-winning production “The Vagina Monologues.”

Two more performances of the play, which opened last night, are scheduled for 8 p.m., Feb. 12 and 14, at the Backdoor Playhouse. The play is part of the annual V-Day College Campaign that aims to raise sexual violence awareness, and TTU is one of many campuses across the country participating in the event.

The cast, directed by Mark H. Creter, includes students Casey Fox, Carrie Foley, Misty Brown and Emily Stefanik, along with area actresses Kathy Gilpatrick, Dana Grantham, Beth Thompson and Katie Davis.

Through performances of the play and other events on or around Valentine’s Day, funds are raised and donated to grassroots organizations working to stop various forms of sexual violence, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery. In the seven years since the movement first began, more than $25 million has been raised nationwide.

Tickets for our production of “The Vagina Monologues” are $10 each for general admission and $6 each for students. Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Tennessee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

For more information, visit the V-Day web site at www.vday.org or call the Backdoor Playhouse box office at 6595.
