The eighth annual Stonecipher Symposium on Technology, Communication
and Culture, with the theme "Eat, Drink and Think Globally:
Can the World Survive a Consumer Culture?" will once again
spark discussion and debate on an important current topic.
Beginning the evening of March 21 and lasting
all day March 22, the symposium will explore the question of how
we can sustain a consumer culture with limited resources.
Speakers include Steen Jorgensen, director of
the Social Development Department at the World Bank; Stephen Smith,
executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy; Sue
McGregor, a peace studies expert from Mount Saint Vincent University
in Canada; Jeff Smith, an author who questions the safety of genetically
modified foods; and journalist Bill Lambrecht, an author who explores
limited water resources and genetically modified foods. The event
will also feature a presentation by WastAway, a McMinnville-based
company that transforms household garbage into consumer products
like park benches and mulch.
All events, except the keynote addresses that
will be held in Derryberry Auditorium, will be held in the Tech
Pride Room of the Roaden University Center.
