Every May, during the break between semesters when campus activities
slow down, our Facilities staff schedules a hot water outage to
conduct maintenance on our heating and cooling systems. This year,
campus-wide hot water outages are planned for May 9-21.
In the meantime, the work schedules of several
contractors have firmed up for the installation of new lines to
improve our cooling, or air-conditioning, system (see "Summer
construction to include ground, street excavations" in
the past issue of the Tech Times). Excavation and installation
will coincide with the hot-water outage between May 9 and 21.
Digging for installation of the "South
Loop" section is set to begin May 9 near Marshall Hall
and behind Maddux Hall.
Preparation for the "North
Loop" section will begin at the same time with the installation
of cooling valves, which means that air conditioning won't be available
in the Fitness Center, Eblen Center, Foster Hall, the RUC, Johnson
Hall and Pennebaker Hall for part of the May 9-21 period.
Street excavation also starts May 9 for the North
Loop, so expect some traffic detours and sidewalk closings, too,
along University Drive and at the Peachtree intersection.
In addition, Chartwells is installing new chilled
water pipes in the RUC, so air conditioning there is likely to be
out longer than in other buildings.
Facilities schedules these projects to limit any
inconvenience as much as possible. If you have any questions, call
Larry Wheaton at 3589 or e-mail lwheaton. |
