His devastating injury last September and remarkable recovery captured
the hearts of many people. Now Drew Hixon's story will be featured
this weekend on a nationally syndicated television program.
Hixon's story will air on "The George Michael
Sports Machine" which airs
on Sunday, June 19 (Father's Day). The NBC affiliate station in
Nashville that carries that program is WSMV-TV, Ch. 4. The program
airs at midnight.
A senior wide receiver on our Golden Eagles football
squad, Hixon was critically injured on Sept. 11, 2004, in a game
at the University of South Florida. On Jan. 29, Hixon and his family
made a triumphant return to Tech where his recovery was celebrated
by thousands of fans and well-wishers.
Producers of the program first contacted our Sports
Information Office in November, and have been following Drew's progress
since. They have worked closely with Hixon's family, and interviews
will be included in the piece.
Hixon plans to return to the Tech campus this
fall to take the final two classes he needs to graduate with a bachelor's
degree in Business. He tuned up for his return to Tech by taking
a class at a community college near his home in Virginia, and has
also been working part-time at the Nike Outlet store while continuing
to undergo physical therapy throughout the summer.
A total of 166 stations from New York to Los Angeles,
and from Miami to
Seattle, will show the program. |
