| This
summer, former TTU first lady Jennette Volpe contracted a severe
bacterial infection, and spent weeks in a hospital in Anchorage,
Alaska, where she and former President Angelo Volpe and friends
had intended to vacation.
Word of her illness spread quickly, and hundreds
of well-wishers from campus and the community sent cards, letters,
and gifts to the Volpes. Once Jennette was well enough to return
home, the American Red Cross held a blood drive in her honor.
Earlier this week, Jennette sent a letter of her
own to campus expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of compassion
during her illness and recovery. She wrote:
Dear Friends,
Angelo and I thank you for your many expressions
of care and concern during my illness. The calls, the cards, the
gifts of food and especially your prayers gave us great comfort
and were very much appreciated. We thank everyone who participated
in the blood drive by planning, working or donating. Your love and
support were extraordinary, and we thank you.
Love,
Jennette
