As impressive as our local history and rare book collection in the
Volpe Library is, it's our human resources that most impressed a
recent visitor when he encountered Associate Professor Christine
Jones.
Robert Dodd Jr., genealogist for the Society of
the Lees of Virginia, was on campus this summer researching an early
Tennessee politician, William Rodham Kenner of Rogersville.
"Thirty years of research had not disclosed
the desired facts," he says, "but within five minutes
of introduction, Mrs. Jones had identified the exact location of
the data for my use. This feat of excellence took my breath away.
"It seems that credit for good work often
goes without reward. I hope that such is not the case for Christine
Spivey Jones, for she is in fact a national treasure. Her encyclopedic
knowledge of local Tennessee history is a true marvel. It is an
asset not only to me, but also to your very fortunate student body."
