Professor Chris Koczwara recently gave her painting students an
assignment that’s turned into a powerful exhibition in the
lobby of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The paintings are interpretations of images from
Hurricane Katrina, and they're on display through Nov. 8.
The students’ work depicts portraits of
victims, cityscapes of the flooding and destruction, aerial views
of the storm and renditions of Doppler radar images tracking the
storm’s progress.
While some students focused on the sadness and
darkness of the destruction resulting from the disaster, others
chose to use more intense color to bring about a feeling of hope.
